Andre Volkel, Tour Guide and Company Owner

Andre Volkel, Tour Guide and Company Owner At Mercurio Bike Travel you will find only guided cycle tours. This means you will receive insider information, which can't be found in any written tour book. Our guides are bilingual which makes it comfortable for you to get all your questions answered.

Besides guiding you around at daylight and joining the group for dinner at night they arrange luggage transport to the next hotel, prepare delicious picnics at lunchtime, offer a seat in our escort car if needed and manage everything that may come up else.

"Germany's cycling routes have a lot to offer. Cycling on paths through forests, meadows and alongside rivers, but also passing historical places and medieval towns is absolutely worth it. Moreover, cycling and breathing the fresh air is very healthy and keeps me fit."

A Typical Day with Mercurio Bike Travel

A Typical Day with Mercurio Bike Travel You wake up in a mid-sized, family-run hotel. While having a rich continental breakfast, some group members drop into the breakfast room, wishing you a Good Morning. Your guide, sitting at the next table, chats with you about the latest weather forecast for the day to come.

9am, a local city guide picks the group up for a tour of the town. She shows the town's attractions, seasoned with some anecdotes from its history. An hour later you may take the opportunity to explore further on your own or just relax in one of the cozy cafés.

2pm - time to hit the road. Cycling on dedicated cycle paths, through grain fields and in parts directly along the river bank, the group reaches the first point to have a break. Your guide distributes water and ice tea to refill your bottles and hands out bananas to help keep up your energy level. Having sufficiently rested and refreshed, you start again; your guide leading the group mostly at the front.

In a flash you have reached today's final destination. To avoid the increasing traffic, your guide takes an indirect but safe route into town. You pass the market square, surrounded by numerous restaurants and shops located within restored, half-timbered buildings. The hotel where you stay has a golden plate hanging over its door; an important person must have stayed here in the past, just like tonight.

Your luggage is already in your room and you have time to freshen up before taking a short stroll through the town. At 7pm you meet the guides and your travel companions again. Together you walk to the carefully selected restaurant. Its wooden furnishings must be a hundred years old. Not so the service. Why not try ordering the drinks in German today? While enjoying the chef's suggestion, boiled beef in horseradish sauce with potatoes and beans in bacon complemented by a warm apple strudel dessert, you celebrate your achievements and chat with your new found friends.
